The Bechtel Summit

Attention Scouts and Scouters: The 2013 National Jamboree is
July 15-24, 2013 at the Summit Bechtel Reserve

What is the National Jamboree?
Every four years, the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America organizes the ultimate Boy Scout experience, the National Jamboree! It is a National encampment that brings together Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, and adult leaders from throughout the country, along with visiting Scouts from other parts of the world. It is the ultimate in Scouting experiences where you will be able to take part in mountain climbing, kayaking, rafting, shooting, scuba and many, many more activities, while meeting Scouts from around the world.

In 2010 over 40,000 Scouts and Scouters attended the Jamboree, and all the excitement of past Jamborees will be brought along to the inaugural Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve. It will be an experience of a lifetime and one you won't want to miss. Imagine 10 days of fun and activities-all day long everyday plus some spectacular arena/stage shows with great entertainment, and the opportunity to tour some of our country's historic past. Start making plans now for your Scouts to attend the 2013 National Jamboree. Visit the official Summit Bechtel Reserve website.

Who can go to the Jamboree?
The exact size of the Mid-America Council's Jamboree contingent has not yet been determined, but it is destined to fill up quickly with scouts and leaders. The leaders will have an application to fill out and an interview process conducted by the MAC Jamboree committee for selection. Further details on this will be forthcoming. To qualify as a youth Jamboree attendee each Scout must be at least a first class Scout, have completed the sixth grade or be at least 12 years of age by July 1, 2013, and not reached his 18th birthday by July 24th, 2013. He must participate in the pre-jamboree training experience, have completed and filed the appropriate personal health and medical forms, have been active in a troop or team/crew for at least 6 months prior to July 1, 2013, be approved by his Scoutmaster, and be approved by the MAC Jamboree Committee. Scouts who are over 18 years of age but under 21 at the time of the Jamboree can attend as 3rd Assistant Scoutmasters or as staff members. Venture crews with older boys or girls can find opportunities to attend as well. Adults can go too! There are plenty of staff positions to be filled. More information about staff positions and adult volunteer opportunities will be available in the future as National releases information and applications.

I'm interested. What do I do?
Overwhelming response is expected due to the inaugural Jamboree at The Summit. You will need to submit your application early to secure your place in line, as slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. While the official applications for the 2013 National Jamboree are not yet available, you may reserve your spot by downloading the Jamboree Youth Interest Form  and sending it to: 2013 National Jamboree, Mid-America Council. The address is located on the form. A complete Interest Form plus a $150 non-refundable deposit is considered a completed preliminary youth application at this time. Later there will be scheduled payments, with the total fee due by the spring of 2013 (final date to be announced).
