What is a Campmaster?
A Campmaster is an adult who is engaged in Scouting, either in a local unit or in a district or council position. They have a particular experience level in Scouting or have skills/expertise to share with others. A Campaster should be someone who can be a role model and inspriation for other adult leaders and a coach or mentor to youth Scouts.
What does a Campmaster do?
An adult Campmaster becomes a part of a Campmaster Crew. The Campmaster Crew can choose a weekend at any of our facilities to administer their role (Little Sioux Scout Ranch, Covered Wagon Scout Reservation, or Camp Wa-kon-da). The Campmaster Crew is a group of dedicated, adult Scouting volunteers who serve as managers of the camp when in use for weekend camping. The Campmaster Crew is generally responsible for weekend hospitality, unit programming, and maintenance support. Click on the links below to learn some additional information. Campmaster Crew Responsibilities
Why would I want to be a Campmaster?
Why wouldn't you? The benefits of being a Campmaster are limitless? Below are just a few of the perks:
- Enjoy our camp property with your adult buddies
- Use your experience and/or skills to mentor other leaders
- Teach Scouts!
- Be a part of strengthening the weekend and summer camping programs of the Mid-America Council and our camps!
- Enjoy fishing, hiking and relax surrounded by nature
- Housing is provided while at camp for Crews at Covered Wagon Scout Reservation and Little Sioux Scout Ranch
A strong Campmaster Corps will help provide more unparalleled experiences to our youth through our weekend camping opportunities at Covered Wagon Scout Reservation, Little Sioux Scout Ranch and Camp Wa-kon-da. Along with better utilization of our camp properties. The growth of these opportunities for our Scouts will relate to units having well-planned outdoor programs, supported by our camps, that will lead to better retention of their Scouts.
So When Can I start?
A few crews have already signed up to start the process at CWSR and LSSR! To make this initiative successful, more crews are needed. Don't hesitate to sign up for a weekend at any of our camps today. Campmaster program offerings will be promoted in advance to unit leaders, so their units can choose which weekends to camp based on the program being offered.
