Youth Ranks
Trail Scout
The trail scout in the wagon train was responsible for going ahead of the train, choosing the best path to follow and the best crossing location at streams and river.
- Complete 1-4 individual challenges.
- Past Braves and Warriors are now Trail Scouts, and will need to complete 1 individual challenge to continue advancing in the program.
Fire Builder
Fire was critical for the wagon trains, both for cooking meals and for socializing, as the nightly campfire was a time to share fellowship, songs and stories.
- Complete 5-8 individual challenges.
- Share Four-Hearts Resolution with an adult
- Past Fire Builders and Tom Tom Beaters are now Fire Builders, and will need to complete 1 individual challenge to continue advancing in the program.
Wheelwright
The wheelwright was a vital role, fashioning and repairing the spoked wheels for the Conestoga and prairie schooner wagons in the train.
- Complete 9-12 individual challenges.
- Past Runners, Keepers of the Sacred Bundle, and Shaman are now Wheelwrights, and will need to complete 1 individual challenge to continue advancing in the program.
Adult Ranks
Wagon Master
This was the seasoned leader of the wagon train. The Wagon Master was the CEO of the wagon train, keeping the train organized, making key decisions to ensure the safety of the settlers in the wagon train.
Assistant Wagon Master
These individuals provided support to the Wagon Master in a variety of roles and responsibilities.
Wagon Guards
Wagon guards provided safety and security for the camp at night, aided individual families if their wagon broke down, and worked for the benefit of the entire wagon train when assisting with stream and river crossings.
