About Scouting for Food
Scouting for Food is an annual community service effort supported directly by the Mid-America Council and partner organizations in our local communities. Under the Scouting America strategic pillar of being recognized as an advocate for youth and youth issues, Scouts across 103 counties in Nebraska and Western Iowa collect nearly 200,000 food items for those in need. This is the equivalent of approximately 114,000 meals. We are happy to partner with the Food Bank for the Heartland & local food pantries in dozens of communities.
For reference, here is a list of participating food banks and pantries across the Mid America Council from past Scouting for Food Drives.
How You Can Help
- On Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, Scouts will be canvasing select neighborhoods to leave a door sticker reminder. If your home receives a door sticker, you will have the opportunity to bag any non-perishable food donations to be left outside your home by 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 9th, 2025 for our Scouts to collect. (Please do not include any expired, glass, or breakable containers in your food donation.)
- Scouts will be collecting all bagged food donations on Saturday, August 9th, 2025 between 8 a.m. and noon, so please have your donations out and ready to go before 8 a.m. on the 9th.
- If for some reason your food donations are not picked up, we encourage you to take your donated food items to the Salvation Army in Grand Island or your local food bank or pantry.
- If you did not receive a door sticker and still want to donate, please take your donated food items to a pantry from the list above.
